It all started with the words, “Let’s burn a man.” On a summer solstice evening 30 years ago, a bohemian drifter named Larry Harvey spoke those words to about a dozen friends, torched an effigy of a man, and watched it go up in flames on San Francisco’s Baker Beach.

Alessandro Catenacci, the Stockholm-based Italian hospitality magnate whose company, Nobis, has transformed the Swedish hospitality scene, is about to open his first Danish property—Nobis Hotel Copenhagen—scheduled for completion in early summer 2017. Flanked by the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen Central Station, and City Hall Square, the grand 77-room hotel will inhabit the landmarked building at Niels Brocks Gade 1 in the city center that originally housed the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music.
